It's like "Oh yeah, I forgot about that part." Then he has a flashback which takes him to one of the harder levels in the game, which serves him right. When Shadow decides that he's going to smash open a box and just grab the Chaos Emerald powering it, first you're like "Shadow, you're a dick." Then the alarm starts blaring and the Oh, Crap! look on his face is priceless.Also, when you complete the normal mission for Prison Island, Shadow will exclaim, "I found it! The fourth Emerald!" Since the above quote became a meme, it makes it sound as though he had a hard time finding it.This is the same company who, just the prior year, subjected Maria to Never Say "Die" (which is even more ironic as this is the game that dives further into Shadow's past, where Maria's death is brought up constantly).

  • Hell, from a meta perspective, just thinking about how this was 4Kids Entertainment's first dub of a Sonic game.
  • And then you realize there is a recording of Shadow saying “You’re going straight to heck!”.
  • So this means that somewhere out there, there is surely an alternate recording of Shadow exclaiming: "Where's that DARN fourth Chaos Emerald?!" You decide which is funnier.
  • Fun fact: Jason Griffith actually explains here (around 26:34) that 4Kids weren't actually sure if they'd be allowed to use stronger language like this in a Sonic game — so alternative takes were recorded with more child-friendly dialog for example, "darn" instead of "damn".

    In fact, the blatant overuse of 'hell' and 'damn' in a clear attempt to make the game seem Darker and Edgier makes the entire thing utterly hilarious.What's even better is that the subtitles are rendered thus: "Where's that damn FOURTH Chaos Emerald?" due to the game's weird thing about all-capsing numbers related to the Chaos Emeralds.Shadow: Where's that DAMN fourth Chaos Emerald?!
